Preparing for Home Assignment
This preparation is challenging and time consuming, so as you read through this information, please do not panic. If you do not understand some of the information, ask your field director or a worker who has recently returned from home assignment.
Often there is certain information that you do not know concerning your home assignment. Do not wait until everything is in place before sending in your forms. Take note of what you did not send us and do so when you have the needed information.
International Ministries (IM) wants to assist you in every way possible during your home assignment. When you return to the United States and have questions about home assignment, do not hesitate to call or write me.
Let me share a brief word about rent. There was a change in policy a few years ago that you need to understand. IM will pay your rent but not your utilities. Please look at the maximum rent that we allow for you and your family and try to find a home that rents in or under that price range. If you live in a high-cost area of the country and your rent is higher than the maximum IM allots, please write or call me so that something can be arranged.
Missions promotion is an important part of home assignment. Please prepare in every way possible as early as you are able. You may request a particular tour by writing to Ralph Trainer. Let me add, however, due to the increasing number of tour spots to fill, he is not always able to comply with your request. He will do his best. We continue to face a shortage of missionaries for tours.
Home assignment is many things to each of you—family reunions, speaking engagements, renewal of ties with your home church, a change of pace and place, a time for spiritual renewal, etc. We in IM desire to assist you in every way possible to make your home assignment the best it can be. Please do not hesitate to call us.
As you anticipate home assignment, ask God to do something special for you during these next few months. Finish strong in your field ministry. Trust God for the impossible.
